What makes a good bid

It's all about the bid baby. As with everything else related to Ultimate in Portland, the infamous Bid Party gets bigger and crazier every year. If you're reading this it's because your team already knows how to do a great bid. Nonetheless I'd like to shed a little insight into the whole bid process.

Every year I learn just how unpredictable it is. People send me letters asking me if they'll get in. How would I know? I'm only one vote, and I have very little control over this mob. And it is a mob. The mood of the crowd swings wildly as we go through the bids. The exact same bid might be great one year, and terrible the next. It might be great if we open it at 3:00, but get tossed out the door if we look at it at 6:00. It just goes to show, you don't ever know.

Service bids are always a big hit. Tonight at The Party you'll have the men from Spawn serving your beer; the Amazing Meanads will be serving the food; Umaine will be flippin' the burgers; and best of all the ladies_err_men from Harvard will clean it up in the morning! I don't have the space to mention everyone, but rest assured the Clambake could never happen without the help from all of these teams. Please take the time to thank these folks when you see them.

Some people don't trust the creative bid process. They think we just drink the beer they send, eat the food, play with the toys, then let all our friends in. So they have another option - give us Money! Not us, actually, but Maine Special Olympics. This year three teams went way over the top and pledged to donate $2,000 (TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS) each! We are incredibly grateful for this generosity, and can't begin to thank these teams and others who made donations.

You also can help this very worthy Charity. We will be raffling off some major prizes in the Ultimate Raffle. Buy some tickets at the tent. All of the proceeds from our Shirts, Discs, and Hats also get donated. We have raised over $30,000 since we began this crazy show - please help us make this the biggest donation ever!
